The real climate change catastrophe

The real climate change catastrophe In a startling new book, Christopher Booker reveals how a handful of scientists, who have pushed flawed theories on global warming for decades, now threaten to take us back to the Dark Ages Next Thursday marks the first anniversary of one of the most remarkable events ever to take place in the House of Commons. For six hours MPs debated what was far and away the most expensive piece of legislation ever put before Parliament. The Climate Change Bill laid dow… Continue

Meanwhile, back in cold reality...

Meanwhile, back in cold reality... For the third year running there are signs of an abnormally hard winter in many parts of the world, says Christopher Booker. By Christopher Booker Published: 6:18PM BST 17 Oct 2009 Not many people in Britain were aware, I suspect, that 20 per cent of the entire United States was last week covered in snow, the greatest October snow cover the country had known for years (for details see the Watts Up With That website). Similarly unseasonable snowfalls blanket… Continue

Sceptics welcome BBC report on 'global cooling'

Sceptics welcome BBC report on 'global cooling' Climate change sceptics have welcomed a “surprise” BBC decision to give prominence to evidence from leading scientists that there could be 30 years of “global cooling”. Under the headline `Whatever happened to Global Warming?’, the BBC has reported that the warmest year recorded globally was 1998, and for the last 11 years no increase in global temperatures has been observed. The report by the BBC climate correspondent, Paul Hudson, which provok… Continue

Taxman planning room-by-room inspections of family homes

Caroline Spelman has responded to new evidence that emerged today of Gordon Brown’s secret plans for council tax hikes on family homes. A new electronic Government tax handbook, complete with audio commentary, reveals how taxmen are being trained to conduct inspections of people’s homes and tax every home improvement and room. Caroline Spelman MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, said that Labour Ministers have been "caught red-handed" in training a "cadre of s… Continue

Arctic ice proves to be slippery stuff

The extent of the sea-ice is now half a million square kilometres more than it was this time last year, says Christopher Booker. BBC viewers were treated last week to the bizarre spectacle of Mr Ban Ki-moon standing on an Arctic ice-floe making a series of statements so laughable that it was hard to believe such a man can be Secretary-General of the UN. Thanks to global warming, he claimed, "100 billion tons" of polar ice are melting each year, so that within 30 years the Arctic could be "ice-… Continue

yet another soldier killed

please, can anyone tell me why we are in Afghanistan? They still haven't fixed the election results and what is so important about elections anyway - they never had them before? Why do the troops go out - kill a few taliban, take casualties themselves then come back to base leaving the area so that the taliban can take it over again? Can you imagine on 6th June 1944 the Allies landing then leaving the following week to do it all again a month later? Well that is what they are doing in Afghanist… Continue

passport application - so true

Dear Minister I'm in the process of renewing my passport but I am a total loss to understand or believe the hoops I am being asked to jump through. How is it that Bert Smith of T.V. Rentals Basingstoke has my address and telephone number and knows that I bought a satellite dish from them back in 1994, and yet, the Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date? How come that nice West African immigrant chappy who comes round every Thursday night with his DVD rentals van can t… Continue

Hospital parking

Charges for Car Parks at hospitals in Lincolnshire are to be increased with Grantham Hospital the worst hit. Parking for between an hour and four hours at the hospital car park will increase by 50 per cent from £2 to £3. Parking at Lincoln and Boston Pilgrim will only be increased by 50p to £2.50 while parking at Louth remains unchanged. But the worst part of this is that hospital bosses will also be withdrawing the right of disabled blue badge holders to park for free in hospital car parks.… Continue

Progress?

At 8 a.m., on 13 August 1964, the last 2 men to be executed in the UK were hanged. They died simultaneously, one in Liverpool, the other in Manchester. The crime took place on 7 April 1964, they were tried in June the same year, both being found guilty of murdering West in the course of robbery, a capital crime. Judge Ashworth condemned both men to be hanged. Thus at 8am on 13 August 1964, Evans was hanged in Strangeways Prison by Harry Allen and, at the same moment, his accomplice Peter Anthony… Continue

Baby P

I just couldn't read what horrific torture poor baby Peter had to endure, not because I am squeamish but because I am so angry that really nothing has been done. His mother received only 3 years in prison for some reason, her boyfriend 12 years (Biggs received 30 for armed robbery remember) but apart from losing their jobs, none of the totally incompetent idiots from the Council, the Police and the NHS have been punished in the slightest. How can they miss a little boy with fingernails pulled o… Continue

Councillors

The Journal asks are Councillors worth the money? No, Councillors are not worth the money by any stretch of the imagination. There are too many of them, 58 for an area the size of SKDC! It has been said there are too many MPs compared to other countries but even so we have a 12th of their number for a small district council. Why should they get any expenses at all? School Governor's don't and they work just as hard and attend as many arduous meetings as the Councillors, as well as many other c… Continue

Kipling Revisited

They flew me 'ome from Baghdad with a bullet in me chest. Cos they've closed the army 'ospitals, so I'm on the NHS. That nurse, she ain't no Britisher an' I know she ain't impressed. It's like I'm some bloody street 'ooligan, who's come off second best. Yes, it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, and it's "You're not welcome 'ere". But when Saddam was collar'd, they was quick enough to cheer. They're proud when Tommy Atkins 'olds the thin red line out there, But now he's wounded back at 'ome, 'he ha… Continue

Global cooling hits Al Gore's home

Global cooling hits Al Gore's home Nashville, the home of leading global warming prophet Al Gore, has enjoyed the coolest July 21 on record, observes Christopher Booker. It was delightfully appropriate that, as large parts of Argentina were swept by severe blizzards last week, on a scale never experienced before, the city of Nashville, Tennessee, should have enjoyed the coolest July 21 in its history, breaking a record established in 1877. Appropriate, because Nashville is the home of Al Gore,… Continue

Can we learn anything for Grantham and SKDC from up the A1?

On his first morning as Mayor of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, Peter Davies cut his salary from £73,000 to £30,000 Then he closed the council’s newspaper for "peddling politics on the rates". Now three weeks into his job, Mr Davies is pressing ahead with plans he hopes will see the number of town councillors cut from 63 to just 21, saving taxpayers £800,000. Mr Davies said: "If 100 senators can run the United States of America, I can’t see how 63 councillors are needed to run Doncaster". He h… Continue

Letters to the Journal

The Journal no longer prints my letters to them for some reason so I will post them here 3 letters this week: The memorial. Instead of a time capsule in the centre of the memorial, can I suggest that democracy, freedom of information and common sense are placed in there as SKDC has deemed them no longer applicable to the taxpayers. Road Safety Although the Road Safety Partnership believe that businesses are not aware of the importance of road safety, they fail to recognise that everyone is… Continue

moral question

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line. THE SITUATION: You are in England; York, to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flo… Continue

you couldn't make it up

Recently, in a major supermarket in Lincoln, I witnessed 2 RAF uniformed males buying some beer. The young girl on the checkout asked them for ID to confirm their ages. One produced his RAF ID Card. To my utter amazement, he was told that this was not an acceptable ID for the purchase of alcohol. He had to produce a Passport, Photo DL or something with a hologram on it. Upon checking, I have established that none of the major supermarkets in Lincoln will accept a Service ID as a valid proof in… Continue

Come on SKDC - lead the Northern Hemisphere - do something to earn your money and status

following on from the last blog Australia town bans bottled water Campaigners say bottled water is bad for the environment A rural town in Australia has voted overwhelmingly to ban the sale of bottled water over concerns about its environmental impact. Campaigners say Bundanoon, in New South Wales, may be the first community in the world to have such a ban. They say huge amounts of resources are used to extract, package and transport bottled water. The discarded plastic bottles then end up… Continue

summits

apart from having a piss up with their mates and a brief holiday for family and the very expensive goody bags, what is the purpose of all these summits? Especially the ones supposedly to discuss the reduction in carbon emmisions! Hello - has anyone heard of teleconferencing or even Skype for the poorer nations like us? Continue

The Politicians Poem

I want a floating duck house I want to clear my moat I need to mend my tennis court That's why I need your vote. I have to build a portico My swimming pool needs mending My lovely plants need horse manure And the Aga needs much tending A chandelier is vital Mock Tudor boards are great My hanging baskets won awards And I've earned a tax rebate. I need a glitter toilet seat. My piano so needs tuning Maltesers help me stay awake And my orchard must need pruning I could have said the rules were… Continue
